My Theology: The world’s leading Christian thinkers explain some of the principal tenets of their theological beliefs.

‘Discovering theology came about by pure accident,’ writes Ann Loades, one of the most distinguished theologians of our time – only the second person to be awarded a CBE for ‘services to theology’.

The Serendipity of Life’s Encounters charts the particular challenges facing a schoolgirl of the 1950s attracted to the possibility of going to university to read Theology, and her fascinating subsequent path to becoming the first woman to be given a personal Chair at the University of Durham.

Pertinent themes explored include women in theology, worship, engagement with actual living, biography and theology in various writers.

Ann Loades is Emerita Professor of Divinity at Durham University, and Honorary Professor at the University of St. Andrew’s. She was the first woman (and only second ever person) to be awarded a CBE for ‘services to theology’, the first female President of the Society for the Study of Theology, the first woman to be given a personal chair at Durham, and the first woman to take a seat in the Chapter of Durham Cathedral.
